Belmont Notes for Friday

June 8th, 2007

1:00 PM – For the most part, Belmont employees are friendly and love to bet. Even the girls in the office play show parlays.

1:30 PM – The Manhattan clam chowder they sell in the grandstand is worth eating…even on a hot muggy afternoon.

2:31 PM – Some jock I’ve never heard of, J.A. Bracetty, rides Sweet Grass Creek to an easy win. I actually had a winner at Belmont!

2:45 PM – Put CONNIE THE QUEEN on your “Horses To Avoid List.” She is a genuine nut case.

3:07 PM – “He thinks every horse is Barbaro.”
An opinionated New York punter about Edgar Prado

3:12 PM – They have more urinals at Belmont than Hollywood Park has fans at the track on Thursdays.

3:15 PM – Jose Cuevas touts me on Them There Eyes. She surives a claim of foul and gives me two on the day.

3:45 PM – I think Kenny Mayne just might be crazy.

4:00 PM – I hear a rumor the racing department is pissed that Bobby Frankel is eschewing the entry box. Can’t blame him though. He doesn’t have many New York-breds which seems like all NYRA wants to run.

4:01 PM – Kent Desormeaux beats me out of the pick four on an 8-5 shot. Ugh!

5:01 PM – John Velazquez rides a winner for his brother-in-law. He would have never ridden that beetle for somebody else.

5:32 PM – Marcavelly wins the Hill Prince (G3). He has been good to me a couple of times now.

5:45 PM – Off to fight the NY city traffic and then eat some good Italian food at Formaggio’s in Garden City – The “Pasta Erotica” has a sexy name and will knock your socks off.

9:00 PM – Last minute handicapping decisions for tomorrow’s card. (I’ll be too busy doing 5 1/2 hours of radio to not have everything etched in stone wagering wise.)

10:30 PM – Watching the Dodger game – but really listening to Vin Scully. It is such a treat for me that I don’t go to sleep until 1:30…and I have to get up at 4:30. Oh well, I love Vinny.
